Our Eco Footprint

Being "Green" or sustainable means using natural resources efficiently. For us here at CLIMB Works that's the only way we know how to be. Having such a unique bond with nature through our Canopy Tour we wanted to spread that same idea throughout everything that we do. The first way we've accomplished this is putting a lot of time and thought into every aspect of our business. From design and construction to education and preservation. When it comes to building Canopy Tours we lead the industry in new and sustainable practices. It first starts with taking care of the beauty we are trying to share with everyone on our tours. One of the most precious parts on our tour is the trees, so we've decided to take care of them. Our engineered platforms and signature designs boast half the weight of conventional designs and allow over 25 years of growth before any major adjustments! The trees can hardly tell we're there! We've also put the same practice in our bridge and zip line design. Having a full-time arborist on our team and many other skilled professionals we are always working to improve our installation methods and stay on the cutting edge of sustainable design.

Not only are all of our custom engineered designs made with nature in mind, but so are our installation methods. As you come experience CLIMB Works Canopy you'll notice the very little impact we made on the environment. Even the trees we had to cut down we reused for walking bridges, wood chips for the trails, and structural accents in our barn (building). There are plenty of ways to be sustainable as long as you have a little creativity.

Even the placement of our road was heavily considered and finally decided after extensive survey when we found out that the western corner of the property had been heavily attacked by storm and ice and had already killed over 70% of the old growth.

But… the CLIMB Works Canopy headquarters is our pride and joy when it comes to sustainable practices. Our goal as a company was to have a building that was LEED certified (which is the epitome of any builder seeking to be sustainable), luckily, one of our Co-Owner's here at CLIMB Works has a degree in Interior Design and Sustainable Practices so we were off to a great start.

First, we thought about how to use what we already had most efficiently. Previously in the location of our current facility there was an old abandoned and structurally unsound barn that we tore down piece by piece so we could salvage as much as possible hoping to be able to use it for something. Little did we know at the time that we'd find uses for over 80% of the useable material we meticulously took down and saved. From the old metal roofs, large wood beams, old 2x4's, and even the old barn doors, we used it all. Being able to use all of the beautiful aged barn wood and metal got us excited, but once we mixed it with high energy efficient heating and air, insta-heat hot water units, fluorescent lighting, dual-flush toilets, concrete flooring and countertops, wood stove heating, local lumber supplies, low VOC paints, white wool insulation, and many more new sustainable technologies we had ourselves and eco and sustainable business from all aspects.

While we continue to strive to be more and more sustainable in our practices we also strive to make an impact through education. After touring both in the treetops and throughout our facilities you'll have become more aware of your surroundings and be given a great head start to living more green yourselves. We also give back a dollar donation from every ticket sold to help save the Eastern Hemlock, which is currently being heavily attacked in our area and throughout the Smokies. For those who want to join us in making a huge impact in our future without leaving a huge footprint on Mother Nature come by and see us. Let's work together.
